Sodexo was chosen by AstraZeneca, after a hugely competitive selection process, to provide support services for its UK operations, the company made the decision to combine outsourced soft services at these locations with one company.
With an estimated annual turnover of £9 million, the deal, which began in May, has seen Sodexo employ nearly 450 staff to manage a wide range of services including, security, cleaning, laundry, internal horticulture, and clinical and sanitary disposal.
The new portfolio, which incorporates AstraZeneca executive headquarters at Stanhope Gate in London as well as sites in Bristol, Devon and Macclesfield, marks a significant extension of Sodexo's existing relationship with the company, which has already been fostered internationally in countries such as France, China, Canada and Mexico.
Keith Lawson, pharmaceutical director, Sodexo corporate services, said: “This is an extremely prestigious contract win for Sodexo and one which reflects our credibility in the UK pharmaceutical industry. AstraZeneca felt Sodexo had the best understanding of its culture and practices, and that our strong management team could ensure the delivery of this specialist expertise now and into the future. We are also in discussions with AstraZeneca regarding any further opportunities.”
